The Twisted Truth: Are You Really Doing Nothing?

The Twisted Truth: Are You Really Doing Nothing?

Welcome back to another episode of The Twisted Truth! I hope you’re all having a fantastic and blessed day. And hey, Happy Daylight Savings Time—whether you love it or hate it, the clocks have changed, and so should our mindset.

Today, I want to unpack a phrase we’ve all used: “I’m doing nothing.” It’s a casual response, something we say without thinking. But is it really true? Are we ever actually doing nothing, or is that just a mindset that keeps us from moving forward?

The Myth of Doing Nothing

I was on the phone with a friend recently, and when I asked what he was up to, he responded, “Nothing.” Now, me being the smartass that I am, I had to challenge that. “Are you breathing? Watching TV? Scrolling through your phone? Folding laundry? Then you’re doing something.”

This got me thinking—how often do we tell ourselves we’re doing nothing when, in reality, we’re engaged in passive activities? More importantly, how does this mindset affect our ability to chase our dreams?

I know a lot of dreamers. They talk about their big ambitions—starting a business, writing a book, launching a podcast—but when it comes to putting in the work, suddenly, they “don’t have time.” Yet, they spend hours watching TV, endlessly scrolling through social media, or just lounging around. That’s not nothing—that’s misused time.

Dreams Require Action

I wholeheartedly believe in dreaming big. But dreams don’t come to life just because we want them to. They require action. I’ve always lived by the philosophy: if you think it, you can achieve it. Everything I’ve accomplished—from my art to my home decor, my podcast to my online magazine—started as a dream. But it only became real when I took steps toward it.

Even on my so-called “lazy” days, I make sure I’m being productive. That doesn’t mean working 24/7—it means using my time wisely. Reading, brainstorming ideas, researching, even reflecting on my goals is doing something.

If you have 30 minutes in your day, you have time to take a step toward your dreams. Write down ideas. Research the next move. Send an email. Take one tiny step. You don’t have to go from zero to a hundred overnight, but you do have to start.

The Power of Words and Mindset

What we tell ourselves matters. If you constantly say, “I’m doing nothing,” you’ll start believing it. And when it comes time to tackle something important—whether it’s a business idea, a creative project, or a personal goal—that same mindset will hold you back.

Instead, be intentional with your words. If you’re resting, call it self-care. If you’re brainstorming, call it planning. If you’re watching TV, acknowledge that someone is getting paid while you watch them work. And then ask yourself—what could I be doing to move toward my own success?

Time is What You Make It

I get it—life is busy. Trust me, I know. I have responsibilities, a podcast, an Etsy store, creative projects, and personal commitments. But I make time for what matters. And guess what? You can too.

If you feel like you don’t have time, take a hard look at your schedule. Prioritize. Manage your time. Borrow time from unnecessary distractions. And if you’re unsure where to start? Use technology to your advantage. AI, like ChatGPT, can help you plan, research, and execute ideas faster than ever. There’s no excuse for “doing nothing” when tools exist to make things easier.

Final Thoughts: You Are Always Doing Something

At the end of the day, the twisted truth is this: you are always doing something. The question is—are you doing something that brings you closer to your dreams, or are you just passing time?

Stop saying, “I’m not doing anything.” Start recognizing that every action, every thought, and every moment has value. Be mindful. Be productive. And most importantly, invest in yourself.

And as I always say:

✨ Stay blessed, because you are already blessed.
✨ Love yourself, trust yourself, believe in yourself.
✨ Have a great day and be productive!

Until next time—ciao! 🚀
